At least seven personnel of Malda District Correctional Home here were injured after they were assaulted allegedly by prisoners today, police said.
The incident occurred when some prisoners were loitering outside their cell and the workers asked them to return to their cell.
After an argument, the prisoners attacked the prison staff members with iron rods injuring seven of them, police said.
Two of the seven were hospitalised in a serious condition.
An investigation has started into the incident, police said.
