Prisoners of Guwahati Central Jail today approached the Gauhati High Court seeking cable connection for televisions in jail to watch the cricket World Cup matches and other programmes.

Mohit Hojai, former Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous District Council, and six other inmates filed a writ petition in the High Court praying a direction to the jail authorities so that under-trial prisoners are able to watch the competition.

Filing the petition on behalf of the prisoners, advocate Amit Goyal said recreation is a must to keep the minds of the prisoners healthy and watching sports and other entertainment channels would help them.

The petition has been admitted.
