Mizoram assembly today rejected a private resolution moved by opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) member Dr K. Beichhua.

The resolution seeks speedy repair works on the roads and bridges in the whole of Mizoram.

Ruling Congress members, rejecting the resolution, said that condition of the roads in the state had improved a lot after the Congress came to power in 2008 and again in 2013.

They said that the resolution merely intended to tarnish the image of the present government.

The opposition legislators slammed the government for failure to maintain roads across the state saying that almost all the villagers were engaged in repairing roads voluntarily.

They said that the need of the hour was that the state PWD should expedite repair of roads during the working season.

The resolution was rejected by a voice vote.
