A private tutor was today arrested on charge of allegedly killing a student's mother at a coaching centre in the state capital here.
The incident took place last night when the student's mother P Sheela Jaya went to the coaching centre to enquire about her child's academic progress.
The police said she had an exchange of words with the teacher identified as Rasmiranjan Sahoo and in a fit of anger Sahoo allegedly strangulated her.
"Prelimnary investigations reveal that Jaya died due to strangulation. However, we are waiting for the post mortem report," Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.
Jaya, a resident of BJB Nagar in the city had yesterday gone to the coaching centre in her car.
The police said after the incident, Sahoo called the woman's driver, who was standing outside the coaching centre, and told him that Jaya had become unconscious.
Chandrasekharpur police reached the spot when the duo was about to take Jaya to hospital in the car. The police admitted her to Capital Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
