Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare today did not allow withdrawal of the breach of privilege motion moved against editors of two Marathi news channels for allegedly derogatory comments against the legislators.

"Due procedure in the motion would be followed," he said.

The House had admitted the breach of privilege motion against Nikhil Wagle, editor of IBN Lokmat and Rajeev Khandekar, editor, ABP Majha for allegedly using derogatory language against the legislators who had thrashed a policeman inside the Vidhan Bhavan in March 2013.

The editors had slammed the legislators and questioned their integrity. The event had led to an uproar in the legislature and prompt reactions in the state. Five MLAs from assembly were suspended for their involvement in thrashing a police sub inspector during the budget session last year.

Congress legislator Bhai Jagtap had moved the breach of privilege against the editors.

Jagtap today requested the Council to withdraw the motion. Kapil Patil of Lok Bharti supported him and requested the chairman to withdraw the privilege motion move against the editors.
