Pro-Tamil outfits protest presence of Lankan defence officers

About 25 Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi activists were arrested at Coonoor, when they attempted to block the Nilgiri Mountain Rail at Railway Station, police said.

About 50 workers belonging to Periyar Dravida Kazhakam were arrested when they squatted on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Road. In Coimbatore, 20 activists of Naam Tamilar Katchi were arrested when they attempted to stage a demonstration in front of the Regional Passport Office.

Meanwhile, Nilgiris Superintendent of Police Nizamuddin said they have not received any official information regarding the visit of Lankan officials.

Periyar Dravida Kazhakam General Secretary K Ramakrishnan asked the Centre not to allow Sri Lankan officials to visit India, particularly Tamil Nadu, for military training.
