Probe begins into boat capsize incident, boatman held

As the revenue divisional commissioner (RDC), northern division, began enquiry into Monday's boat capsize that left six persons died, police today arrested boatman Bauribandhu Behera.

At least six persons including three girls died as the alleged unauthorised boat in which they were crossing Brahmani river on Mahashivratri day capsized on March 7. Around 30-35 people were crossing the river in the boat to reach Daudeswar Shiva temple in Gondia.

The boatman was absconding since the incident, police said.

Meanwhile, RDC, northern division, NBS Rajput and Dhenkanal collector Rupa Roshan Sahoo and other administrative officials, visited the victims' village at Surapratappur and talked to the rescued persons.
 

The state government had announced Rs 4 lakh as ex-gratia for the family members of each of the victims.
