Probe ordered into death of 4 children in hospital

A multi-level probe has been initiated to find out the reasons behind the deaths of four children admitted to the intensive care unit of a government-run hospital here on Sunday.

While Kottayam District Child Welfare Committee today asked the local police to conduct an investigation into the incident of children's death at Institute of Child Health (ICH), District Collector U V Jose directed the District Medical Officer to probe the matter and submit a report.

Of the four, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, two kids were reportedly suffering from dengue and asthma. The reasons for the deaths of two other kids was yet to be revealed.
 

ICH officials said that the children who died were initially treated in private hospitals and admitted to the ICH in "a very serious condition" and given given proper care and treatment, the ICH officials added.
