Press Trust of India Jammu
Jammu and Kashmir Tribal Affairs Minister Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today ordered a magisterial probe into the violence during a recent anti-encroachment drive in Jammu city in which five cops and a photo-journalist were injured, an official said.

Speaking at a meeting here, Ali asked the district administration to conduct an inquiry into the incident and asked officers to identify those responsible and take appropriate action against them, an official spokesman said.

The government had earlier issued transfer orders for a Station House Officer (SHO) for withdrawing police personnel from the spot in the Gole Gujaral area during the drive.

On Monday, five policemen, including three officers, and a photo journalist sustained injuries in clashes with residents during an anti-encroachment drive in the city.

Locals carrying rods, sticks and bricks, attacked the anti-encroachment team after they razed a structure constructed illegally on a plot of land owned by the Jammu Development Authority.

The minister also asked the officers concerned to conduct a survey about the status of nomadic population in their respective districts within two months so that a comprehensive policy could be framed to rehabilitate them, the spokesman said.
