Further investigation into the death of Swami Saswathikananda, former head of Sivagiri Mutt in 2002, was possible only if new evidences were received, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said today.
"It is for the Crime Brach to decide on a re-probe into Swami's death which is possible only if new evidences are received", he said speaking at the meet-the-press programme at Calicut Press Club here today.
"The Crime Branch, which had carried out investigations into the incident thrice earlier, found that Swami died of drowning on all the three occasions. In its report submitted at the court two years ago, the Crime Branch had said that Swami died after he was caught in the under current in Periyar river at Aluva", Chennithala said.
On CPM fielding those who were jailed for various offences, including murder in the local body polls, he said by their action, the party leaders are encouraging those who indulge in anti-people activities to become people's representatives, he said.
On security arrangements during the civic polls next month, he said, "We have requested for 19 companies of central forces for the peaceful conduct of the elections. But the central government rejected the request on the pretext of Bihar polls being held now".
"So, we requested the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments to send their forces and they agreed for the same. The forces will be deployed in problematic areas" he said.
"BJP, which has no roots in Kerala has formed a third front in Kerala in alliance with religious and castiest forces. It would only be a dream which will not materialise", Chennithala said.
