Police said Tejender, a resident of Moti Nagar in the capital, was arrested thrice earlier with regard to cases registered against him for allegedly printing fake Indian currency notes (FICN) and robbery.
He was arrested yesterday from near Chhatrapati Shivaji Park in Basai Dara Pur on a tip-off that he would come there to visit his associates and might be carrying illegal arms. One pistol along with two live cartridges were recovered from his possession.
An auto rickshaw driver, Tejender fell into bad company and was first taken into custody in 2000 in an auto lifting case. Fake Indian currency printed in Pakistan were also recovered from him and his associates that time, police said.
Declared as a proclaimed offender in the case, he was again arrested in 2002 while planning to commit dacoity and more than 10 stolen vehicles were recovered from him and his associates.
"After his release from jail on bail in 2004, he bought a computer and a printer. Though he is not much educated, he learnt computer and began to print Indian currency notes of the denominations of Rs 100 and Rs 50. He circulated these notes in the market," S B S Tyagi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime, said.
He was again held in 2005 and after coming out of jail two years later he never attended court but joined one Vinod and Alka and began printing FICN with them.
Vinod and Alka Grover were arrested in April this year, but Tejender managed to give police a slip.
"Interrogation of accused revealed that whenever he came out of jail, he never met his old associates. Every time he formed a new team for committing the crime. He was hiding in Punjab and was working as an operator of a JCB machine," Tyagi said.
