Professor Girija Sharma was appointed as the first woman Dean of Studies (DOS) at Himachal Pradesh University, after 45 years of its inception.
An alumnus of Himachal Pradesh University, Professor Girija Sharma, a Gold medalist of 1977-78 batch of M.A. English and UGC Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) awardee in M.Phil./Ph.D., has been appointed as the post, making her second in command in academics.
She has been teaching in the Department of English, HPU since May 1981 and also worked as the Chairperson of the Department, a press release issued by the university stated.

Her research papers and book reviews on Modern and Renaissance Drama, Post-colonial and Commonwealth literatures, Regional Indian literatures and New Literatures have been published in national and international journals, the release said.
She has co-edited three academic books published by Oxford University Press and Orient Black swan.
She has been regularly visiting many universities and institutions as a Resource Person.
Currently, she is also the Editor of the Himachal Pradesh University Newsletter 'Himshikhar', a quarterly publication.
Professor Girija Sharma has supervised 15 Ph.D. Theses and more than 50 M.Phil. Dissertations and was also bestowed the Best Teacher award in 2014 during the annual Foundation Day Celebrations, the release stated.
