A three-day capacity building programme of women police officers in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district was concluded today, an official said today.

Thirty-three women police officers participated in the programme which had a special focus on crime against women and its investigations.

The programme which ended today was sponsored by the National Commission of Women (NCW) in collaboration with Bureau of Police Research and Development, a police spokesman said.

The recent National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) statistics reveal that crimes against women are on the rise and it is the need of the hour that the women police officers are sensitized about these issues, the spokesman said.

He said it was also important to expand their mental horizons for achieving excellence and for promoting attitudinal reorientations in line with changing organisational ambience so as to foster respect for women rights and recognition of gender issues.

The spokesman said the objective of the programme was to make the women police officers well versed with laws pertaining to women, familiarising them about implementations of such laws with counselling skills.
