Prohibitory order under section 144 CrPC was promulgated Thursday around state Assembly here in the wake of intelligence inputs about protest to be organised Friday when the five-day session of the house begins.
The East Khasi Hills District authorities Thursday promulgated section 144 CrPC prohibiting gathering of a group of people within 500 meters of the Assembly at Rilbong and 100 meters of the main and additional secretariat here, officials said.
The order, promulgated by deputy commissioner P S Dkhar, also prohibits carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons by civilians but will not be applicable to the security forces, they said.
The prohibitory order has been issued after intelligence inputs received indicated that some members of an NGO intended to protest in front the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Friday by holding placards which may lead to law and order situation, the order said.
The five day Assembly session is set to begin from Friday.
