"The imposition of section 144 Cr PC has been extended for a period of two months," an order issued by District Magistrate, Kupwara, said.

The order was issued yesterday and assumes significance as security agencies are apprehensive of a spurt in infiltration attempts by militants from across the border with melting of snow along the Line of Control (LoC).

Prohibitory orders and night curfew in the areas close to the LoC has been in force in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir since the eruption of militancy in early 1990s.

District administration extends the prohibitory orders, which bans assembly of four or more persons at a single place without prior permission, every two months after taking stock of the law and order situation.
