Prohibitory orders in Kishanganj town will remain in place tonight and the district's border with North Dinajpur district of West Bengal have been sealed, a top district official said.

Kishanganj District Magistrate Animesh Kumar Parasar said prohibitory orders in Kishanganj town will remain in place tonight and further decision on doing away with imposition of section 144 under Crpc will be taken tomorrow after review of law and order situation in the town, a top district official said today.

The district magistrate said the decision to seal border with North Dinajpur district was taken amid reports that rumour aimed at creating panic among the dwellers of Kishanganj town had emanated from Uttar Dinajpur district earlier this week.

He said that the members of two communities have been asked to set up a peace committee at the panchayat level to restore peace and normal life even as an appeal has been made to the people to guard against rumour aimed at vitiating peace and law and order.

Earlier this week, a slaughtered animal was thrown near a shrine earlier this year triggering panic among the people.

15 people were arrested in this connection.

The district administration had yesterday claimed to have restored peace and normal life in Kishanganj town, but decided to clamp prohibitory orders in the night.
