Project sanctioned to check sea erosion: CM

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today announced a Rs 133.19 crore project for construction of sea wall and groyne in the coastal areas of the district facing the fury of heavy sea surge.

Inaugurating the district leg of his Mass Contact Programme here, he said an amount of Rs 61.64 crore out of this has been granted and projects worth Rs 70 crore were being undertaken with the help of NABARD.

He also announced 21 new projects to address immediate problems in the district.

Chandy also laid out a plan for the construction of houses for the fishermen who lost their homes due to sea surge.
 

The Chinese nets in Kayankulam lake will be shifted with the support of fishermen before the commissioning of Kollam-Kottappuram waterways.

On agriculture sector, he said 50 more paddy husking machines would be procured for Kuttanadu farming region.

The amount pending against procurement of paddy since April will be distributed at the earliest,he said.
