Chib, who was the chief guest at a wrestling competition, said that the state government has prioritised creation of adequate sports infrastructure right from block level to revive the sports culture in the state.
The function was also attended by Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla.
Chib said the government was keen to upgrade sports infrastructure in rural areas adding that various steps have been taken in this regard.
He said a new scheme has been launched, under which, inter Panchayat sports tournaments will be held at block level to provide potential players of rural areas an opportunity to excel in sports of their interest.
The Minister said that such events could play a major role in exploring the hidden talent among rural youth, particularly traditional games like wrestling and kabaddi.
He hoped that with the promotion of sports, the rural youth would be able to make a mark even at national and international levels.
