Initial assessment of property tax arrears due from the Daya Cyber park company has revealed that they should pay Rs 1.5 crore to the corporation, if the area where the park is located had been classified as "A-grade area", V.V.Rajan Chellappa, City Mayor, told reporters here today.
But there was a complaint that the area had been classified as B-grade or some other grade where the property tax assessment would be too low compared to a genuine assessment of the area, he said.
"This is only a rough assessment. It should be a bit more," Chellappa said.
Referring to reports of the company's alleged encroachment on Corporation land, he said the civic body had issued notice to all property owners in the 100-feet road leading to Alagarkoil road.
But Daya cyber park directors had not given any explanation for the encroached Park zone, though others had given an explanation, he said.
He alleged that the Union Minister instead of speaking about the encroachment had asked partymen to reply to the corporation.
DMK men had been claiming that they had obtained permission from the corporation to set up the park, which should be verified, he added.
