Property tax in Puducherry is set to go up from April 1, with the government directing the civic bodies to revise the rates and cancelling certain benefits extended hitherto.
The Local Administration department issued the order to revise the property taxes for quinquennial period (2017-2022), as the validity of assessment of property tax in the Union Territory for the quinquennial period 2012-2017 comes to an end on March 31, the order published in State Gazette said here today.
The order stated that the existing rental value for the purpose of assessment of the property tax "should be increased by a uniform rate of 15 per cent for residential buildings, 25 per cent for commercial and industrial buildings and 20 per cent for other structures for the period 2017-2022 commencing on April 1.

In the case of tenant-occupied buildings for any purpose in every category "the annual rental value should be increased by 10 per cent as envisaged under the Rules forassessment of annual rental value of buildings or houses.
