Jammu and Kashmir government will send a comprehensive proposal to the Centre to construct bunkers for civilians affected by frequent shelling from across the border, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said.
The bunkers will be constructed along the Indo-Pak border.
Omar was in R S Pura belt here to meet people affected by firing from across the border.
"We are with you to share all your difficulties and provide all possible help," Omar told the affected families.
Omar, who was briefed by the divisional administration about the relief measures for the affected people, said concerned authorities have been asked to expedite the matter.
The Chief Minister said the demands put forward by legislators and sarpanches representing border areas have been registered.
"In fact we have already discussed these demands with the Union Home Minister during his recent visit here, and are actively pursuing this at the Central level".
He said the issue of recruitment of youth residing in border areas in para military forces and army was been taken up with the Home Minister.
"We have emphasised the need for recruiting youth of these areas in army and para-military forces and will continue to stress on it," Omar said.
The Chief Minister visited Abduliyain frontier village in RS Pura sector, and also met families whose houses were damaged in the shelling.
Omar travelled along the 'zero line' of international border from R S Pora to Samba and in Pargwal area here.
Earlier, the Chief Minister, along with his cabinet colleague and others, visited the Government Medical College here and met persons injured in border shelling. Omar directed the authorities to provide best possible treatment to them.
