The idea to convert PEC University into an IIT has been a long-standing one. After being shelved for years, the issue has picked steam again in the last three years.
If PEC manages to gain the IIT status, it will be equipped with better facilities and get independent funding, although the institute will then have to do away with the 50 per cent reservation for applicants from Chandigarh union territory.
Badnore also said Chandigarh should assess the total carbon footprint and make an action plan of reduction of carbon footprint in accordance with the steps taken by various developed cities in the world conforming to the principles of climate change.
