The Kanpur police is considering distributing Closed User Group (CUG) Sim cards to the security personnel posted here to help them communicate better with police.

According to Kanpur SSP, K Emanuel, a detailed plan of action will be created and sent to the government in this regard. Once their nod is received, the scheme will be implemented.

"Currently, at least 762 securitymen are posted in the interior parts of Kanpur district who commute by bicycle to the police stations to give information about an incident," he said.

The proposal to equip them with intra-group calling facility will help the police in better handling and action in the event of a mishap, he added.

All the 762 security personnel were given bicycles and torches worth Rs 3,000 last year. They are also given Rs 600 annually for bicycle maintenance, the SSP said.
