Five women were rescued and six persons were arrested after a prostitution racket operating from a lodge here was busted, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, the Central Crime Branch of the city police raided a lodge yesterday and rescued five women, they said, adding four women hail from Kolkata and one is from Mysuru.

Five mobile phones and some cash were among the items seized from the six arrested, officials said.

The arrested have been booked under various sections of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and IPC section 370 (Buying or disposing of any person as a slave), they said, adding further investigation is underway.

Officials said the women had been lured to the city by promising jobs and were pushed them into the racket.
