Protect people from Northeast; Centre tells states

In a communication, the Home Ministry said there have been reports of attack on students and other people from Northeast in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and immediate steps must be taken to stop such kind of violence.

The Ministry particularly told states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Delhi, where a large number of Northeast origin people live, to deploy additional forces for their protection.

Calls for help must be taken seriously and on an urgent basis, the communication said.

The attacks on people from Northeast have been reported following clashes between Bodo tribals and immigrant minorities in several lower Assam district which so far claimed 77 lives.
