A court in Pune today granted protection from arrest till July 28 to Rohit Tilak, a Congress leader and great-grandson of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak, in a case of alleged rape.
Rohit filed an application for anticipatory bail after a 40-year-old woman lodged a complaint of rape against him a few days ago.
Additional Sessions Judge L L Yenkar today directed the police not to arrest him till July 28, the next date of hearing, his lawyers said.
The complainant has alleged that she and Rohit knew each for the last two years, and he raped her on several occasions after promising to marry her.
