Protection Officer arrested for graft

A Protection Officer with the Woman and Child Welfare Department was today caught while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a man for issuing him a compensation cheque, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said.

The officer, Prakash Daji Gude, has been posted at Bhiwandi in the district.

The 34-year-old demanded Rs 8,000 for issuing a cheque which was due to the man's daughter, who was a victim in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), an ACB release said here.

Certain compensation was granted to the victim by the State Government under a scheme and Gude sought bribe to release the cheque from his department, it said.
 

Acting on a complaint, ACB laid a trap and caught the Protection Officer while accepting the bribe amount, the release said.

He was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
