A newly elected Block Development Committee (BDC) member was today found dead in Babri village of Shamli district, triggering protest by locals who refused to handover the body to police for postmortem.
The body of 26-year-old Sonu was found in a field and bore multiple injury marks, police said.
They said it could be a case of murder and previous enmity could be a reason behind it.

Sonu was elected as a BDC member in the recently concluded panchayat polld and was an eligible voter for Block Pramukh elections.
Meanwhile, villagers staged a protest over the matter and refused to handover the body to police for autopsy.
Security has been tightened in the village with senior police officials rushing to the spot in view of the situation.
