Locals, attendants and social organisations gheraoed the doctors of government-run Cuttack Hospital today demanding stringent action against certain surgeons, "who are taking money from patients to perform surgeries".

Commotions prevailed in the hospital campus for over three hours before the agitators were removed from the campus by the police after the CDMO Prafulla Kumar Behera assured that he would take action against the erring doctors.

"After receiving written complaint, I would initiate an inquiry and actions would be taken against the erring doctors", Behera assured.

According to locals, the surgeons in the Hospital are demanding certain fixed amounts from the patients for different surgeries and the same are being collected from the patients' attendants by the employees of the Hospital.

An expectant woman's relative loudly protested when a Hospital staff on behalf of a doctor asked him to pay Rs 3000 for the surgery. Soon other attendants and some local people gathered at the spot and began protesting against the conduct of the doctors.
