Protest against 'harassment' of passengers fromKasaragod

Kerala Muslim Youth League (MYL) activists today staged protest here over alleged harassment of passengerscoming from Kasaragod district by officials of Mangaluru International Airport.

MYL Manjeshwar unit president A K M Ashraf, who addressed the protesters near the airport premises, demanded that officials taking a 'discriminatory' attitude towards passengers from Kasaragod be immediately replaced.

It had become common for expatriates belonging to Kasaragod to bear "ill-treatment and humiliation" from airport officials, he alleged.

Poor passengers from the region were being detainedfor hours in the name of interrogation, he alleged.

Manjeshwar MLA P B Abdul Razak saidthe people of Kasaragod had supported the establishment of theinternational airport in Mangaluru.
 

He had also noticed such behaviour from officials while travelling from the airport, he said.

Reacting to the allegations, Airport Director J T Radhakrishna said that barring some minor incidents, MIA was one of the best in the country in terms ofcustomer satisfaction.

It was ranked second in South India andfifth among tier-two airports in the country, he said.
