Over 400 workers of three Jammu-based organisations today staged a demonstration protesting against the state government's failure to pass the temples protection and maintenance bill in the Assembly.

The activists of Kranti Dal, Dharmarth Trust Sudhar Sangarash Samiti and Ram Sena demanded immediate passage of the temples and shrines bill which is pending before the Select Committee of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

They alleged that the Congress was creating roadblocks in the bill's passage, though all other parties of the state were in its favour.

The protesters also demanded a judicial probe into the selling of temple lands and properties by Dharmarth Trust, headed by Congress MP Karan Singh. During the protest, they burnt the effigy of Singh.

"We demand a judicial inquiry by the existing Chief Justice of the J&K High Court to expose the scam in Dharmarth Trust," Kranti Dal general secretary Pritam Sharma said.
