Protest demanding NOC from forest department

"The state government has intentionally held up the no-objection certificate which has created a barrier in the in the construction of Silchar-Lumding broad gauge project," the committee's Karimganj district convener Arunangshu Bhattacharjee said.

He said they were left with no option but to launch a movement against the "apathy" of the state government towards the Barak Valley.

The members of the committee also submitted a memorandum to Assam Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain in this connection.

They has also chalked out a series of protest programmes and would also stage similar demonstration before the district forest offices of Hailakandi and Silchar.

 

The committee was formed in 2009 to demand the early completion of the project which started 16 years ago.
