Alleged use of pages a religious book in packaging triggered protests in a locality of Jammu, prompting the government today to order a magisterial probe.

The probe was ordered after members of a particular community held a protest in Bari Brahmana area of Samba district against the management of a private factory which had allegedly used the pages in packaging.

Samba Deputy Commissioner Sheetal Nanda has ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter. Police has also constituted a Special Investigation team to investigate the matter.

"A case under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) has been registered at Police Station Bari Brahmna against the management of the factory and the police assured us that the culprits shall be booked by conducting fair, transparent and impartial investigation into the matter," said a statement issued by the community members.

It said the private company used pages of the religious book as packaging material in boxes which was a sheer disrespect towards the religious scripture.

The Deputy Commissioner as well as SSP Joginder Singh rushed to the spot of the protesters and persuaded those agitating.
