Protest over arrest of innocents for attack on minister's kin

Residents of Sikandarpur township here halted idol immersion procession and blocked roads protesting the arrest of "innocents" in connection with the attack on the brother of UP's Minister of Basic Education Ram Govind Chaudhary and his driver.

Two accused named in the FIR registered in connection with the October 2 attack were arrested today. In protest, the locals blocked Nagra road in Sikandarpur, halting the idol immersion procession, ASP K C Goswami said.

The protesters claimed that innocent people were being rounded up and harassed, he said, adding that senior police officials assured the agitators that no innocent person would be arrested in the case.
 

Dharmendra, the driver of Ram Bachan Yadav, minister's brother, had Thursday gone to a Durga Puja pandal in Sikandarpur township where some persons attacked him with lathis.

As Yadav rushed to the area on getting the news, he was also attacked and both were admitted to community health centre.

Four persons were named in an FIR registered in connection with the matter.
