The project affected people of Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dam projects built on Narmada river today staged a protest before a team of Union Ministry of Environment at Amladha village to demand release of water into canals.

The protesters, led by Sheru Patel, Rajesh Patidar and Bhagwan Bai, today told reporters that despite constructing canals, the government was yet to release water in them, while it is planning to lift Narmada water from these dams to supply water in Narmada-Kshipra river linking scheme.

"The canals constructed in their area were of poor quality and were damaged at a number of places resulting in water logging in their agriculture fields," they said.

The team head B P Das told reporters that they have arrived here to inspect whether proper network for the release of water through the main and associated canals were done as per the ministry's guidelines or not and after the survey they would submit their report to the concerned officials.

The Environment Ministry team is touring the area since last three days and has visited Punasa, Barwah and Maheshwar area.
