Protesting against the non-registration of a case against a pharma company where a 24-year-old factory employee was electrocuted, hundreds of people blocked the busy Chandigarh-Dehradun highway here today.

The people came on the road and staged a protest after the body of Arun, who was electrocuted inside the factory, was handed over to his family members following a post mortem.

Protesters alleged that police were soft on the erring factory management and were reluctant to register a case of negligence.

The traffic remained suspended for over one and a half hour.

The blockade continued for more than 90 minutes and was lifted after DSP Paonta Sahib Bhisham Thakur informed that a police enquiry had already been initiated into the death of Anil and action would be taken against anyone found guilty of negligence.

The protesters left only after getting an assurance from the administration and police stern action would be taken against those found guilty of negligence.
