Protesters held while attempting to picket AIADMK district HQ

More than 100 persons, belonging to various organisations, were arrested today when they attempted to lay siege to the district headquarters of ruling AIADMK, seeking immediate release of a person, who was detained under Goondas Act, in Chennai, police said.

Tirumurugan Gandhi and a few others were detained on May 17,when they were going to pay homage to Sri Lankan Tamils killed during the final phase of the war.

The protest was spearheaded by Aadi Tamilar Peravai.

Police prevented the activists from staging a sit-in before the AIADMK headquarters and arrested them, the sources said.
