A delegation of the agitating employees of the State Bank of Patiala today met Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh seeking his intervention in preventing the merger of the bank with the State Bank of India.

The group led by its assistant general secretary Yadvinder Gupta also submitted a detailed memorandum to Amarinder giving details of the financial and cultural implications of the merger.

The bank employees said the SBoP was the only national public sector bank in the country with its headquarters in Punjab. It was part of the rich heritage and culture of Patiala and Punjab, a party release said.

Amarinder assured the delegation that he will take up the matter with the union finance ministry and do all he can to ensure that the SBOP does not lose its existence.
