Accusing the state government of "shielding" the main accused Nishan Singh due to his political connections, the protestors including members of at least 17 farmer organisations and nearly 30 other establishments demanded CBI inquiry into the matter.

The protestors also accused the state government of preventing the girl from reuniting with her parents.

The girl's uncle, Raj Kumar, alleged that she has been kept in a single room guarded by police inside Nari Niketan.

"The minor girl has been tortured and threatened of dire consequences if she dares to speak the truth," Kumar said.

"We have planned a massive protest in front of Nari Niketan on November 18 seeking custody of the girl and a CBI inquiry into the case," he added.

The minor was allegedly kidnapped by Singh, who is involved in at least 18 criminal cases, from her house on September 24. On October 20, Punjab police recovered the girl and arrested Singh from Goa.

A medical examination on her confirmed that the girl was pregnant. She has refused to return back to her parents, following which the court sent her to Nari Niketan at Jalandhar.

Meanwhile, Singh had been remanded to judicial custody till November 17 after expiry of his police remand. All the 18 accused in the case, including Singh's mother, have been arrested.
