Hundreds of people today staged protests in Narayanganj city of Bangladesh after bodies of six people, including that of a councilor, were retrieved from a river three days after they were abducted.

The bodies were retrieved from the Shitalakhya River which flows through Narayanganj.

"Three of the nearly decomposed bodies including that of councilor Nazrul Islam were found in the river at Galagachhia area of the town earlier in the afternoon while the three others were retrieved later from the river in a nearby area," a police official was quoted by TV channels as saying.

Hundreds of local residents staged protests against police' failure to find clues to the abduction of seven people. A prominent local lawyer still remained untraced.

The protesters set fire to a filling station on the outskirts of Dhaka and laid a siege on a major highway linking the capital with southeastern port city of Chittagong.
