Hundreds of people belonging to the Coorg region of Karnataka today staged a protest at Jantar Mantar here demanding a separate Coorgland.

The protesters, wearing traditional Coorgi attire and headgear, first gathered at the Ramlila ground and from there marched towards Jantar Mantar where they held a demonstration demanding a separate state for themselves carved out of the Coorg region of southern Karnataka.

A delegation of Coorg National Council also met President Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and submitted memorandums demanding a separate Coorgland.

Demands for separate states have come up in different parts of the country following the Centre's decision to create Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.

The other separate statehood demands include those over Gorkhaland, Bodoland, Vidarbha, Karbiland, besides others.
