Reacting to the CMC order, president of the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samiti (committee spearheading the stir) G Madegowda, said, "The committee has no right to give any direction. We will not allow the government to release water at any cost."

Meanwhile in the wake of renewed protests at Mandya, hotbed of the Cauvery stir, authorities promulgated prohibitory orders from today till tomorrow.

At its meeting in Delhi today, the CMC decided that Tamil Nadu would get 8.85 tmc of water over the next fortnight

Karnataka, however, said it would not accept the award.

The "award" of the committee is based on the findings of a central team that visited Karnataka and Tamil Nadu last week.

Sources said the award is clear that Tamil Nadu "shall receive" 8.85 thousand million cubic feet (tmc) of water between October 16 and October 31.
