Protests over desecration of religious place in Banat

A religious place was allegedly desecrated at Banat town in Shamli district, about 35 km from here, after which local residents came out on the streets to protest against it, police said today.

The incident happened yesterday when devotees found 'Bhumia' (a mound made of earth or bricks where people pay obeisance to their forefathers) damaged and protested against it, they said.

Police reconstructed the place and also deployed additional police force as a precautionary measures in the area, they added.
