Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today said he is proud of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for respecting his mother, and appointing two women, Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman, as cabinet ministers.
Addressing a seminar on Gender Sensitisation here, Deb said the country where people respect their mother is the best country in the world.
"I am proud of Prime Minister Narendra Modi because he has immense respect for his mother. I also feel proud of Modiji because he appointed two women, Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman, in his cabinet," he said.
"Wherever there is worship of women there is a god. You should respect your mother. In a country where its citizens respect their mother is considered to be the best country in the world," said the chief minister.
Criticising the erstwhile Left Front government, Deb claimed that they tried to destroy tradition, culture, custom and traditions of the indigenous people.
"When society improves, crimes against women stops. The crime against women is now less in Tripura after the BJP-IPFT government came to power. Society will be educated only if when a mother is educated," he said.
He said his government had a target of providing one lakh gas connections thorough Ujjala Yojona to poor women and that target was fulfilled within 100 days after coming to power.
