Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan has instructed the V O Chidambaranar Port authorities to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to A Sankaralingam, grandson of freedom fighter V O Chidambaranar, to meet his medical expenses.
Sankaralingam (80) has been suffering from heart ailments and had a pacemaker implanted recently.
In an interview to a Tamil daily, he had mentioned that he was finding it difficult to meet the medical expense, following which Vasan issued instruction to port authorities.
The VOC Port management has approved financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to meet his medical expenses, a release said today.
