Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today appealed to medical practitioners to provide community services in rural areas and said by providing cheap services to poor they could repay the debt of the society.

Addressing a felicitation function of doctors, Naik said that most of the rural areas were deprived of modern medical facilities and in such a situation medical practitioners should give community services in such areas.

"The society has given a lot to doctors and they should repay the debt by providing cheaper treatment to poor. Media should also present this work in a positive manner," he said.

He said that a lot of progress has been made in the field of medicine.

Naik said that having updated knowledge and building confidence in a patient was the real identity of a successful doctor. Psychological counselling help the patient most.

The Governor said that he himself had been a cancer patient, but due to encouragement of the doctors he was completely healthy and was working more.

Naik felicitated 29 doctors for their extraordinary contribution in the field of medicine on the occasion.
