Press Trust of India Jammu
Samajik Vikas Sanasthan, a social organisation of Kashmiri Pandits instrumental in renovation and repair of temples and other religious places in Kashmir Valley, today demanded security setup for the temples in the Valley.

"We feel the necessity of having a security setup for safety of the temples in Kashmir which are soft targets of unscrupulous elements. We request the government to provide CRPF unit at every shrine in Kashmir," President, SVS, Kuldeep Raina told reporters.

He said Kashmir is famous for its religious heritage and most of which are in the shape of temples and shrines.

"Though these temples and shrines are revered by each and every individual, but these were damaged in more than two-decade-long disturbances in the Valley," Raina said.

He alleged that "in number of cases the temples and the land appurtenant thereto has been encroached by miscreants as the same remained unattended for a long period".

SVS was established in 2010 and aimed at retrieval, repairs and renovation of damaged religious places, temples and shrines in Kashmir Valley.
