PSPB wins National team chess championship

A dominant Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) won all their matches to emerge winners in the 33rd National Team Chess Championship here today.

PSPB, which fielded an all GM's team, finished with 18 points from nine matches while Indian Railways B and A team finished at the second and third position respectively.

Railways B got 14 while A won 13 match points.

PSPB beat Air India in the final round with a 3.5-0.5 score with sole draw coming from the second board truce between GM Adhiban and IM Chandrashekhar Gokhale.

LIC of India drew with Railways A on all the boards of the second table, enabling the sibling Indian Railway B team to finish runner up, who beat Tamilnadu A with a 3.5�0.5 score.
 

In the women's section, Air India completed the formalities with 14 match points by accounting for 3.5�0.5 win over Tamilnadu.

Vaishali's half-a-point against WGM Bhakthi Kulkarni was a sole consolation, with former having a better position when signing the truce.

On the second table, AAI had a less experienced opponent in AP Women and finished runners up with a 4-0 score. AP RACE managed only 0.5�3.5 score against PSPB with Pratyusha holding the experienced WGM Nisha Mohota to a draw.
