The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited today said with the revival of power generation from Nathpa Jhakhri Hydel Power Plant and Karcham Wangtoo Hydel Power Plant, the power supply, which was erratic since July 5, has returned to normal in the state.
PSPCL's Chairman-cum-Managing Director K D Chaudhri said due to heavy silt in incoming water, both the hydel plants were closed on July 5 which resulted into loss of 200 MW from Nathpa Jhakhri Hydel Power Plant and 500 MW from Karcham Wangtoo Hydel Power Plant to Punjab.
Due to heavy rain and lightning in Ropar, all the six units of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant at Ropar tripped resulting into further loss of 1260 mw, he said.
Owing to to sudden loss of 1960 MW of power, PSPCL was forced to impose regulatory measures on various categories of consumers, he said.
Thermal authorities rushed and started reviving the units one by one immediately thereafter and by evening of July 6 five number of units of Guru Gobind Singh Thermal Plant were revived and sixth unit was revived by midnight, Chaudhri said.
Nathpa Jhakhri Power Plant was also started by evening on July 6 and Karcham Wangtoo was started today morning, he said.
As such there are no power cuts on any category of consumers in Punjab and eight hours of power supply is being maintained to agricultural consumers of Punjab, the PSPCL official said.
