Power utility Punjab State Power Corporation limited (PSPCL) today said it can save Rs 1,100 crore per annum by shifting electricity meters outside consumers' premises.

"Out of 68.67 lakh power meters, PSPCL has shifted 60.1 lakh power meters so far outside the consumers' premises to pillar boxes in urban and rural areas of the state," PSPCL Director, Administration, Gurbachan Singh Bachi said here.

The power utility is losing revenue due to power theft and meter tampering.

"Almost 90 percent of the work has already been completed and remaining work shall be completed shortly," he said.

Bachi said PSPCL has already incurred a cost of Rs 1,900 crore on meter shifting.

PSPCL will save Rs 1,550 per power connection per year after the meter shifting project, he said.
